SYNOPSIS: Three conmen who become fake shamans to earn their living get the shock of their life when they encounter an unknown spirit.

REVIEW: The spate of horror-comedy flicks in Kollywood does not seem to decline, and going by the number of impressive attempts made in this genre, it is likely that the trend is here to stay for a longer time. The latest film to join the bandwagon is Mo, which elicits curiosity owing to its short and intriguing title. A few minutes into the film, when viewers think that they are in for another movie which falls under the horror-comedy genre, the director takes a different path and we, the audience, heave a sigh of relief.

Dev (Suresh Ravi), Sathish (Ramesh Thilak) and Kumar (Darbuka Siva) are conmen who enjoy making money by deceiving people in varied ways. Their selfishness to earn more in a safer way makes them to don the roles of shamans as they learn that exploiting the fear among others is one of the best ways to survive. They join hands with an aspiring actress Priya (Aishwarya Rajesh) and a makeup man who works in films, Joseph Chellappa (Muniskanth), to carry out their plans. The five-member team create the presence of a ghost in an apartment and performs a fake exorcism successfully, thus winning the trust of the inmates there. The secretary of the apartment, Vetri (Selva), who is into real estate business, becomes very impressed with their work and thanks them heartfully. However, a suspicious Vetri spoils their drama next time when they try a similar exorcism act in another apartment.

As the four conmen and the conwoman plead with him to leave them scot-free, Vetri comes up with a deal. He asks them to stage a similar drama at an old school in Puducherry, where his business rival Senthil Nathan (Mime Gopi) has planned to build a complex, to make the latter drop his idea. The five-member gang takes up the challenge and create a spooky atmosphere in the old school. Senthil Nathan, with no option left, quits his plan to register the building in his name. The team conveys to Vetri about their successful operation over phone, but one of them gets possessed by a spirit unexpectedly, which puts their lives in danger. Not knowing this, Vetri comes over to the building to meet them and gets trapped. What follows is showcased through an interesting set of sequences, though unfortunately, the film gets marred by an unconvincing flashback and repetitive scenes towards the end.

A sincere attempt, Mo is devoid of a some of the regular horror-comedy elements and offers a satisfying watch for a large part of its duration. Had the makers concentrated in the last 20 minutes or so, the film would have been a flawless entertainer for sure. Among the actors, Muniskanth stands tall with his comic timing, followed by Ramesh Thilak, who is also impressive. Aishwarya Rajesh is okay in her suspense-filled role, and Siva and Suresh are adequate for their characters. Yogi Babu, who appears in a few scenes, is a riot.
